Volunteer Screening Policy

of the

Peterborough Youth Indoor Soccer Club

The Peterborough Youth Indoor Soccer Club (PYISC) is a house league organization for youth indoor soccer and supports making indoor soccer a fun and safe sport for the players. Being a house league organization, it is expected that volunteers of the PYISC are never alone with players. Parents are strongly encouraged to be present at games and practices.

Those positions within the Club, which provide an opportunity for one-on-one contact with players, will require volunteer screening. Because of the inherent level of trust, the positions of coach and assistant coach have been identified as volunteer positions requiring volunteer screening. All other positions such as the executive members and conveners do not have direct contact with players and are not required to undergo the volunteer screening.

Volunteer screening for the PYISC includes a coaches registration form, a Police Record Check (PRC) and a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Convictions for fraud, violent crimes, or any sex-related crime will preclude a volunteer from filling a position identified as requiring volunteer screening. Convictions related to theft, driving offences, and possession of narcotics will be accepted provided the conviction has occurred at least five years in the past. The Vulnerable Sector Screening check must provide a negative result for acceptance as a volunteer, that is, the candidate must not be registered in the Pardoned Sexual Offender database.

It is the policy of the PYISC that the PRC is personal information will not be maintained on file by the Club. The applicant volunteer must simply show the PRC (which includes the Vulnerable Sector Screening) to a review panel of the PYISC. To be valid, a PRC must have been obtained within the past year. The PYISC representative will review the PRC in the presence of the candidate, record the date of the PRC and the Police department from which the PRC was obtained, and sign and date an Applicant Declaration and Review form. The form would only indicate if the candidate was accepted or rejected as a volunteer, no other information would be recorded. The candidate would be also sign the form as declaration that the PRC does in fact relate. The PRC is then returned to the individual. The Applicant Declaration and Review form is signed by the representative and the applicant and is the only record kept on file and is filed with the PYISC Volunteer Screening Representative.

The PYISC club will reimburse the individual for the cost of the PRC if specifically obtained for application with the PYISC.

After acceptance by the PYISC, the PRC, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening, is valid for three years. If there is reasonable grounds to suspect that the PRC is no longer valid, the Club reserves the right to request a current PRC.
