Code of Conduct As we all know, sports are supposed to be fun, especially for the players. Unfortunately, many parents, fans and coaches don't realize that their actions, whether verbal or nonverbal, can have a lasting emotional effect on the participants. This Code of Conduct was created by the Peterborough Youth Indoor Soccer Club (PYISC) for coaches, parents, guardians, spectators and participants to abide by, as a reminder to help reinforce what sports are all about. By registering with PYISC, you agree to the following: 1. Participants should not be forced to play; they should have fun at the game.2. Coaches must be informed of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my participant or the safety of others. 3. Participants should learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league. 4. Parents and coaches will provide a positive role model for the participants, encouraging sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game. 5. Unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures will not be encouraged or tolerated. 6. Behaviours or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes will not be encouraged or tolerated. 7. Participants are to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence. Coaches, parents and spectators are to lead by example. 8. Participants and spectators are to treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect - discrimination will not be tolerated. 9. Doing one's best is more important than winning; participants should never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance. 10. Participants are to be praised for competing fairly and trying hard, making participants feel like a winner every time. 11. Coaches, parents and spectators will never ridicule or yell at participants for making a mistake or losing a competition - that's part of game. 12. The emotional and physical wellbeing of the athletes are to be put ahead of any personal desire that coaches or parents may have - winning isn't everything. 13. Officials and their authority will not be questioned or confronted during the game. By registering to participate in any PYISC program you agree that if you fail to abide by the aforementioned code of conduct, that as a parent, guardian or participant, you may be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to, verbal or written warning, game suspension, or season suspension. PYISC looks forward to making your indoor soccer season fun, educational, and challenging, within a safe and healthy environment. September 24, 2008 |
